Cases of rewards payment
- U.S. Department of State introduced ‘The Rewards for Justice Program’ in 1984. More than $150 million has been awarded to 100+ people who have contributed to deterring terrorism or bringing terrorists to justice.
- The rewards program for reporting North Korea’s illicit activities was initiated by the ‘North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act’ enacted by the U.S. Congress in 2016.
- On July 15, 2022, U.S. Department of State stated that it will offer reward of up to $10 million for information on identity or location of any individuals associated with malicious cyber activities targeting U.S. critical infrastructure.
- On November 2022, U.S. Department of State stated its plans to pay reward of up to $5,000,000 under The Rewards for Justice Program to identify the whereabouts of Kwek Kee Seng, a Singaporean suspected of violating sanctions on North Korea.
